TELLING STORIES ONE SWIPE AT A TIME
Being skilled in telling stories on ASCAP’s socials has resulted in 14.8M earned impressions, 1.5M video views, and nearly 700K engagements. One of my favorite storytelling tools is a story gallery to achieve three social media objectives: educating, entertaining, and engaging the audience. Curating stories on social media has allowed me to explore my creative storytelling skills while capturing the attention of ASCAP's followers through pop culture.
EXAMPLE: RYAN GOSLING RETURNS TO MUSICAL ROOTS IN BARBIE
As it was the opening weekend of the movie Barbie, we wanted to feature one of our ASCAP members, Ryan Gosling, who starred in the film and delivered an impressive performance of “I’m Just Ken”. This movie became a cultural phenomenon that everyone was talking about, and we thought it would be a great opportunity to remind people that Ryan Gosling has been a singer-songwriter all his life.
To showcase Ryan’s musical career, we created a gallery that takes you through his musical journey. The first slide is a graphic with a headline that reads “Actor & Songwriter Ryan Gosling returns to his musical roots in Barbie” and features a photo of him at the film premiere.
The second slide is a video clip of Ryan Gosling performing “I’m Just Ken” in the movie. This clip went viral on the internet, so we included it in the gallery to ensure that people who missed our post the first time would catch it the second time.
The third slide features the self-titled album cover of Ryan Gosling’s band, Dead Man’s Bones. The fourth slide is a video clip of Ryan playing a song from that album with his band and the Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children’s Choir.
The fifth slide is a throwback photo of Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears when they were on Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club in the ‘90s. Finally, the sixth slide is a video clip of a young Ryan Gosling, singing an R&B ballad on the Disney show.
Accompanying the photos/videos is our caption that further tells the story in words. It reads:
Ryan Gosling brings the ultimate Ken-ergy to ‘Barbie’ with the power ballad “I’m Just Ken.” 💞
Before returning to his musical roots in ‘Barbie’, Ryan got his start on Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club back in the '90s and has his own band called Dead Man's Bones — a Los-Angeles dark folk-rock duo that consists of him and Zach Shields.
